Grey day at the harbour
The day is dark and gloomy, you can smell the brine of the ocean on the cool air. The well-trodden dirt path stretches over the hills, and first the ocean, then the port village of Doohoma Head comes into view. With each step the Shadowy Waters unfurl, a vast, grey expanse leading out towards a darkening horizon.
The port settlement of Doohoma Head is nothing more than a few wooden structures huddled at the water's edge. A few wooden cabins, a large inn, which has a gruesome sign gently swinging in the lamplight indicating this is called The Dead Goat Inn. The harbour is small and every dock is full with only five ships.
The largest vessel is a stout warship with a single thick mast. Smaller ships are lined up beside it. Three are armed with cannons, and currently these are bustling with activity, tough grizzled sailors hauling and pulling on ropes, you hear their commanders barking commands. Beside these warships, a modest caravel, towing a painted barge. It occupies the near end of the harbour, its presence humbly noted. Along the shoreline, a handful of oil-lamps on fishing boats bob gently in the inky depths.
