Mornings On the Dock
You're 12 years old, on a vacation at the lake with your family. You wake up slowly and see that your cousins are still asleep in the other beds. Rising, you realize that you are the first one awake in the house. You quietly slip out of the house and head down to the dock, watching your step as to not step on a sharp rock in your bare feet. The surface of the dock is rough under your feet. You reach the end and sit down, letting your feet dangle in the water. The only sounds are the waves lapping at the side of the dock, causing it to creak slightly, and the occasional splash as you dip your toes in and out of the water. If you look out, you can see the opposing shore, with a few houses nestled into the trees. You close your eyes as the dock bobs lightly up and down, and listen for the splash of catfish in the water.
