Thanksgiving at OBX
When I was little, we spent Thanksgivings at the beach. No tourists, cold, rain. Collecting seashells in empty Wonder bread bags, building sand castles while wearing hoodies and sweatpants and tennis shoes. No bug bites, no sunburns. Seagulls are still there, begging, perhaps with a bit more desperation in their cries. Always a soft thunder in the distance, always carried an umbrella- not for shade but for rain. This is the only way to go to the beach.
